Really good write up. I’ve read all of your articles and plan on keeping them for future resources. Like you said, just your opinions and observations, but I enjoy articles that don’t gloss over everything. Excellant
Thank you, Robb! I’ve read all of your articles and appreciate the extensive research you’ve done. I rented a car for 3 weeks in Portugal but never got below Lisbon. I shall keep your articles as a reference.
I do have some concern, should I consider retiring in Portugal and that is retirement/nursing homes etc. I read nursing homes were only for people born in Portugal. Just thinking down the road but with so many retirees moving there, I wonder if they have thought that far?
Thanks again and look forward to more valuable information. Alba
Hey Alba, ty for the kind words, glad you liked the posts. I don't know about nursing homes, interesting question, if you get any info. on plea post here and i'll share with others. I do think that's a legit question, some of the people on the lists I have might have answers to that being locals :)
Wonderful write up. Thank you! We made our golden visa investment in an office building renovation in Matosinhos (Porto) in February. Decided commercial was a better way to go to get GV started and then leave our options open for where we want to live. Heading back for all of June to scout locations and to look a universities for our daughter.
Thank you so much for putting all this information together - that takes time and dedication.
I am a Danish expat living in the US. For 20 years, I've seen the downsloping trajectory: break down in civics, dysfunctional politics, fiscal abuses - sadly the list goes on. Rather than return to Denmark, my wife and I have settled on Portugal which by 'american west yardstick', is " just a few states over" from Denmark, but with better weather, food, and lower cost of living....and I think friendlier peeps than my viking brethen.
I will probably use my EU citizenship, but absolutely seek counsel with one of the resources as my wife is a US citizen only.
This is so incredibly helpful and informative. Taking notes for our upcoming month-long road trip as we explore where we might want to live in this beautiful country. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Wonderful commentary! Thank you so much! This is so incredibly informative and helpful. I so appreciate the comments about really touristy areas and what to avoid! Like you, and sadly many others, I have grave concerns about our “democracy” and find it wise
to give serious consideration to viable alternatives. My visit to Portugal was but two weeks and I took in far less than you, but
the kind people and the amazing beauty were astonishing. I shall keep your writings for future reference and find them incredibly helpful. As well, thank you for being so candid with regard to your impressions! Well done!
Barb ty so much for your kind words! Please keep in touch, yes, sadly we are in a bad spot here in the US and need to at least be aware of the reasonable alternatives and Portugal has much to offer :)
